Sometimes, when I find myself trapped in unhelpful thought patterns, I deliberately shift my mindset by asking a crucial question: “What if the opposite were true?”
This question allows me to reframe my perspective, especially when my thoughts tend towards self-criticism or negativity towards others. For instance, if a friend or coworker offers constructive criticism, instead of dwelling on perceived unfairness, I ask myself, “What if the opposite were true? What if they shared these insights out of genuine care to help me improve?” Embracing this mindset is challenging, as it involves questioning our initial feelings.
Naturally, my worldview is shaped by my own experiences. So, when I pose the question of the opposite perspective, I deliberately attempt to view things from a fresh and unfamiliar angle. Though uncomfortable, this approach often leads to unexpected wisdom and insights that help me grow.
