One of the ways we build contentment in our lives is through practicing gratitude. When we focus our attention on the people, places, and things we are thankful for, we momentarily shift our focus away from ourselves and allow someone else to take center stage. This practice, in itself, is powerful.
However, we can enhance the benefits of gratitude by not only being thankful for the blessings in our lives but also by deepening our experience of gratitude when we recall instances when another person expressed gratitude towards us.
Likely, the acts for which we were thanked were not grand gestures but rather simple kindnesses done in the moment. This is instructive as we navigate our days. Sharing kindness with another person has tremendous benefits, not just for the recipient but also for the giver.
