I have yet to upgrade to the new IOS 7 and as an early adopter it is killing me. But, doing so would mean I would have to give up my jailbreak on my iPhone 4S. I get a lot of questions about jailbreaking iPhones. Unfortunately, most of the questions are coming from people who have already upgraded their software. So, unless they want to downgrade they are out of luck.
If you are on the fence about setting your iPhone free these reasons my push you over the edge.
My Top 3 Reasons for Jailbreaking my iPhone
Custom control over look and feel
One look at my dock is enough to see something is different here. I use a simple tweak called Five Icon Dock to give me an extra icon. Cyntact shows my contact’s pictures in the address book. These are just a few of the simple tools that help the iPhone become what it has the power to be. Five Icon Dock is free and Cyntact costs a couple bucks and can be purchased through Cydia, the jailbreak version of the App Store.
Ability to return a text without leaving an app
One of my favorite apps is BiteSMS. One of the key features is that it allows you to respond to a text without leaving the app you are in. You simply choose reply, type out your message and return to whatever you are doing.
Ability to use my iPhone as a wifi hot spot (without paying my carrier twice for my data)
This makes the jailbreak very valuable. In fact, it keeps at least $15 a month in your pocket. An app known as MyWi makes this happen. You can purchase the app once for $20 and have the option to turn your phone into a mobile hotspot. This has been a life saver for me on business trips, family vacations, and at work where I am not able to connect to wifi.
So, there you have it. That is why I just can’t update my software yet. What do you think? Have you jailbroken your phone? Why or why not?
